European elections: the results

The results of the European elections and the new presidents of the European institutions are now known.

France receives 74 seats of which 22 are for the Identity and Democracy group.

Spain receives 54 seats of which 20 are for the group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European.

Poland receives 51 seats of which 26 are for the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.

Romania receives 32 seats of which 14 are for the group of the European People’s Party.

Belgium receives 21 seats of which 4 are for the Renew Europe group and 4 are for the group of the European People’s Party.

Charles Michel becomes the new President of the European Council while the Italian David Sassoli has been elected as the new President of the European Parliament. Ursula von der Leyen from Germany becomes the new President of the European Commission. At the head of the European Central Bank, we find Christine Lagarde. The Spanish Josep Borell has been appointed as the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
